International Biodeterioration Research Group (IBRG) Autumn Meeting in Manchester, UK

The Biofilm Alliance was pleased to attend the recent International Biodeterioration Research Group (IBRG) Autumn Meeting in Manchester, hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University, where biofilms and their impact across a wide range of industries were a key focus of discussion.

The meeting brought together experts from industry and academia to share knowledge and address current challenges associated with biodeterioration and biofilm control. Productive discussions explored approaches and methodologies for determining the efficacy of both preservative and curative treatments against biofilm-associated contamination.

A variety of material types and application areas were considered, including:

• Textiles
• Plastics and polymeric materials
• Painted and coated surfaces
• Wet-state materials
• Functional fluids

The exchange of scientific knowledge, practical experience, and emerging test methodologies highlighted the growing importance of understanding and controlling biofilms throughout the product lifecycle.

The Biofilm Alliance values opportunities such as the IBRG meeting to collaborate with industry experts, contribute to advancing best practices, and support the development of robust approaches for evaluating biofilm prevention and remediation strategies.

The next meeting of IBRG will be in March 2027 (online), with relevant industries encouraged to join and participate. You can find more information on their LinkedIn page: https://www.linkedin.com/company/ibrg/
