During the week commencing 12th May, the Biofilm Alliance team had a productive visit to Cardiff, making significant progress in both national dialogue and regional engagement.
Paulina Rakowska (NBIC) delivered a presentation at the Biofilms11 Conference on closing the gap between current biofilm research and the development of effective regulation and standards. Her talk highlighted the urgent need for cross-sector collaboration to accelerate innovation in biofilm control, particularly in addressing persistent challenges such as the lack of standardised methodologies and limited engagement between researchers and regulatory bodies.
Meanwhile, Geertje van Keulen (Swansea University) represented the Biofilm Alliance at Science and the Senedd, an event hosted by the Royal Society of Chemistry at the Welsh Parliament. Through networking, exhibiting, and introducing the Alliance to the Welsh STEM community, she aimed to spotlight opportunities for workforce development and the co-creation of resources — strengthening ties with regional partners and stakeholders.
These activities underline the Biofilm Alliance’s commitment to driving impact across science, policy, and practice!
